Opportunities for making regular payments using my PC Visa cardUsing your PC Visa debit or credit card when setting up a regular payment can be convenient and simple. If you make regular payments, such as utility or phone bills, insurance premiums, memberships, subscriptions or loan repayments, you can set up a direct debit where the payment is automatically deducted from your account using either your account details or your card details. You'll first need to check whether your service provider or merchant accepts using your Visa Card as a form of payment.
What is a ‘regular’ card payment? Regular card payments can be either a recurring payment or an installment payment. A regular payment represents an agreement between you (the cardholder) and a merchant, where you pre-authorise the merchant to bill your card account at predetermined intervals (e.g. monthly or quarterly) or at intervals as agreed by you. The amount may differ or be the same for each transaction. For example, you may ask your local gymnasium to charge your monthly gym membership fee to your credit card each month. Or you may have purchased a new television from your local appliance store and are being billed by the merchant in subsequent multiple periods.
What are the benefits of regular card payments? There are many benefits for cardholders who set up regular payments, including: 1. Ensures timely payments to the merchant 2. Saves you time as the payment is processed automatically 3. Saves you money as you do not have to pay for cheques, money transfers or postage.
How to effectively manage your regular paymentsCustomer responsibilities and obligations Regular payment arrangements are an agreement between you (the cardholder) and the merchant. You should keep a record of all the regular payment arrangements you have established with merchants and store them in a safe place. A template for recording your regular payment arrangements is available from the Australian Payments Clearing Association website www.apca.com.au.
| Merchant / Billing Organisation | Reference | Frequency | Amount to be debited | Notes | | Telstra Account | 123456 | Quarterly | Varies, approx $200 | Mobile phone | | Jim's Gym | Card xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx | Fortnightly | $45.84 | Gym membership |
When switching accounts or replacing a card, you can easily forget to advise new card details to those with whom you have set-up the regular payment arrangement. You are responsible for notifying the merchant when your account details change, including a change of card number and/or change of card expiry date. Until you notify the merchant, Police Credit is required to process transactions from the merchant.
Use this link to generate a Change in account details letter to your merchant. This correspondence will be required when your merchant does not comply to your request in a timely manner and you decide to dispute any incorrectly charged regular payments. Customer Rights to DisputeAny issues with your regular payments, including the failure of the merchant to act on a change in account details advice, should be taken up directly with your merchant first. Should further assistance be required to resolve an issue between yourself and a merchant, contact your financial institution for more information.

For changes to your account, where the direct debit or credit comes directly from your account (not using the card’s details), use this link to generate a Change in account details letter to the respective organisation. We recommend you keep a copy of any change in account details letter sent and any established agreements.
